Job Description

Product Safety & Regulatory Associate | c.£100,000 + bonus & long-term incentive | London (Hybrid, 3 days) | Permanent

There aren't many lawyers specialising in product safety and technology regulation. That's exactly what makes this opportunity interesting.

We're working with a leading international law firm looking for a Product Safety & Regulatory Associate to join its specialist London team. You'll work where law and technology meet, advising on AI, software, connected devices and complex hardware as regulation continues to develop.

Why join our client

This is a niche team within an established international law firm, with the cross-border reach to handle complex regulatory matters across multiple jurisdictions.

The work is specialist, varied and increasingly important. You'll get meaningful client exposure early, alongside experienced lawyers who will invest time in helping you build your own expertise and reputation.

As a Product Safety & Regulatory Associate in London, you'll also have the chance to develop a genuine niche in an area where experienced lawyers remain relatively scarce.

How you'll make an impact

You'll spend most of your time on advisory work, with contentious regulatory matters making up the balance. You'll:

  • Advise on product safety and regulatory frameworks covering hardware, software and AI.
  • Support product launches and help clients understand complex compliance requirements.
  • Build and improve regulatory compliance programmes and governance frameworks.
  • Guide clients through investigations, enforcement action and product recalls.
  • Liaise directly with regulators and support responses to regulatory requests.
  • Interpret new legislation and turn it into clear, commercially useful advice.
  • Work closely with technical specialists to understand how products actually operate.
  • Support international matters involving products sold across multiple markets.

Why you're a great fit

You'll be a qualified solicitor, likely around 2 to 3 PQE, with strong experience interpreting regulation and applying it to real client problems.

Product safety experience isn't essential. A background in another regulatory practice, including life sciences, medical devices, consumer protection or digital regulation, could translate well.

What matters most is your genuine interest in technology. You don't need an engineering or computer science degree, but you should enjoy understanding how AI, software and physical products work. You'll be comfortable having detailed conversations with technical people rather than treating the technology as someone else's problem.

If you're looking primarily for courtroom litigation, this probably isn't the right move. The contentious work is focused much more heavily on regulators, investigations, enforcement and resolving issues before they reach court.

What you'll get in return

As a Product Safety & Regulatory Associate, you'll join a supportive team that takes flexibility and career development seriously.

  • Salary from around £100,000, subject to experience and final confirmation.
  • Hybrid working with 3 days a week in the London office.
  • Firm-wide profit share.
  • Discretionary bonus, subject to performance and eligibility.
  • Long-term incentive.
  • Chargeable-hours target of 1,350 hours.
  • Genuine flexibility around how you manage your working day.

We welcome applications from all qualified candidates who believe they meet the role requirements. We’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and we’ll provide any reasonable adjustments you may need throughout the recruitment process.
