Job Description

Finance Manager

Core3 is delighted to be working with an established organisation to recruit a Finance Manager. Based near Newport, this opportunity is ideally suited to a technically strong accountant, particularly someone who has trained in accountancy practice and wants to apply that experience in a business environment.

The priority is finding someone with excellent financial accounting knowledge, strong balance sheet experience and the confidence to challenge numbers rather than simply report them.

Why join our client

Our client is an established business looking to strengthen the quality of its financial reporting and internal controls.

You'll work closely with senior finance stakeholders, taking ownership of complex accounting matters and helping improve the reliability of financial information. This is an opportunity to use your technical expertise, influence decisions and make a lasting difference to how finance operates.

How you'll make an impact

  • Take ownership of balance sheet reporting, ensuring figures are accurate, supported and understood.

  • Strengthen financial controls and improve the quality of month-end reporting.

  • Investigate complex accounting issues, unusual movements and unexplained balances.

  • Review reconciliations critically, identifying risks that may not be immediately obvious.

  • Resolve historic accounting discrepancies and prevent recurring issues.

  • Apply sound technical judgement to accruals, prepayments, asset valuations and accounting adjustments.

  • Provide clear analysis of working capital and cash flow movements.

  • Support statutory accounts preparation and external audit requirements.

  • Challenge existing accounting practices and improve reporting standards.

  • Work with senior stakeholders to ensure material accounting risks are identified and addressed.

Why you're a great fit

A strong technical accounting background is essential for this role. Experience gained in accountancy practice would be particularly attractive.

We're looking for someone who understands accounting principles in depth and can apply them confidently to complex financial situations.

You'll be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), ideally with experience gained in audit or financial accounting within an accountancy practice, followed by exposure to a commercial finance environment.

You'll bring:

  • Excellent technical financial accounting knowledge, including accounting standards, statutory reporting and financial controls.

  • Significant balance sheet experience, with the ability to assess whether balances are genuinely accurate and properly supported.

  • A background in accountancy practice, ideally involving external audit, financial reporting or complex accounting reviews.

  • Experience investigating accounting discrepancies and resolving underlying issues.

  • Confidence challenging reconciliations, assumptions and accounting treatments.

  • Strong understanding of month-end and year-end reporting.

  • Sound judgement when dealing with material accounting issues and reporting deadlines.

  • Experience working with auditors and preparing high-quality supporting schedules.

  • Strong analytical skills, Excel capability and attention to detail.

  • The ability to explain technical accounting matters clearly to senior stakeholders.

What matters most is your ability to look beyond a completed reconciliation and determine whether the balance sheet is genuinely under control.

You'll understand the importance of reliable supporting evidence, appropriate accounting treatment and timely resolution of outstanding issues.

When faced with a material accounting concern, you'll have the judgement to assess the risk, communicate the implications and make a well-reasoned recommendation, even when reporting deadlines are under pressure.

What you'll get in return

As Finance Manager, you'll have the opportunity to put your technical accounting experience to work in a position offering genuine responsibility and influence.

  • £60,000–£70,000 salary

  • 20% bonus

  • Based near Newport

  • Opportunity to take ownership of complex financial accounting matters

  • Exposure to senior finance stakeholders

  • Scope to strengthen financial controls and reporting processes

  • A technically focused role where accounting expertise and professional judgement are highly valued
