Job Description

Accounts Assistant | £28,000–£35,000 | Bristol (Hybrid, 2 days office) | Permanent

We’re supporting a purpose-led organisation seeking a capable Accounts Assistant to join their growing finance team. This role is based near Bristol and offers a strong platform to build solid foundations in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and month-end. It suits someone who enjoys detail, cares about accuracy and is curious about how technology can improve finance operations.

Why join our client

Our client is an ambitious, values-driven organisation with a collaborative culture and a clear commitment to doing the right thing. They are investing heavily in a digital-first, AI-enabled finance function and want people who enjoy shaping better processes, not just following them. As an Accounts Assistant in Bristol, you’ll join a team that balances high standards with genuine support. You’ll have space to grow as the business expands.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Lead the day-to-day Accounts Payable process to keep suppliers paid accurately and on time.

  • Manage an AI invoice automation tool, training and refining it to streamline processing.

  • Maintain accurate AP ledgers, resolve supplier queries and complete weekly payment runs.

  • Prepare and complete bank reconciliations as part of core financial control.

  • Support Accounts Receivable through raising sales invoices, credits and managing a varied B2B customer base.

  • Help strengthen AR processes as new terms and contracts roll out.

  • Assist with month-end close including balance sheet reconciliations and basic account analysis.

  • Keep weekly cashflow forecasts updated from an AP perspective.

  • Contribute ideas to simplify, automate and improve AP and AR workflows.

Finance keywords included: accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, cashflow, AP automation, financial control.

Why you’re a great fit

Essential

  • Experience in an accounts role with strong Accounts Payable exposure.

  • Comfortable handling high AP volumes and weekly payment cycles.

  • A working understanding of debits, credits, the P&L and balance sheet.

  • Confident using Excel and modern finance systems.

  • Curious, accurate and able to manage multiple moving parts.

  • Strong communicator who can collaborate with a manager based remotely.

  • A genuine interest in building a long-term finance career.

  • Able to commute to the Bristol office at least 2 days per week.

Desirable

  • Accounts Receivable experience, ideally B2B.

  • Familiarity with NetSuite or AI invoice tools (training can be provided).

What you’ll get in return

As an Accounts Assistant, you’ll gain a clear development pathway into deeper AR, reconciliations, management accounts and business partnering. You’ll be part of a finance team that encourages learning, experimentation and smarter ways of working.

Benefits include:

  • £28,000–£35,000 salary depending on experience.

  • Hybrid working with 2 days a week in the office.

  • Study support for ACCA or CIMA after probation.

  • 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays and office closure between Christmas and New Year.

  • Birthday off and four wellbeing or volunteering days each year.

  • Private medical, dental and optical cover.

  • A range of discounts and wellbeing perks.
