Job Description
Finance Assistant
Bristol | £28,000–£32,000 | Permanent | Office-based | Immediate Start
Are you a Finance Assistant who enjoys working with modern systems, taking ownership and being part of a hands-on finance team?
We’re working with a growing international business in Bristol that is looking for a Finance Assistant to join its finance function. This is a broad transactional role giving you exposure across purchase ledger, expenses, sales ledger, credit control, reconciliations and month-end, supporting both UK and US operations.
It would suit someone with at least a year’s finance experience who is confident with technology, enjoys working at pace and wants broader exposure than a traditional purchase or sales ledger position.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll take responsibility for a range of day-to-day finance activities, including:
- Processing supplier invoices, purchase orders and approval matching
- Preparing weekly supplier payment runs
- Processing employee expenses and company card transactions
- Posting journals and supporting month-end close
- Completing balance sheet reconciliations
- Monitoring bank transactions across GBP, USD and EUR
- Raising sales invoices and allocating customer receipts
- Carrying out credit control and chasing overdue accounts
- Reconciling supplier statements and resolving queries
- Maintaining accurate customer, supplier and employee finance records
- Identifying system or data issues and helping improve and automate processes
The finance team uses a modern technology stack including NetSuite, Tipalti, Payhawk, Salesforce, Stacks, Statement and BambooHR, so there is plenty of opportunity to build your systems experience.
What we’re looking for
You’ll ideally have:
- At least 1 year’s experience in transactional finance, such as purchase ledger, sales ledger, accounts payable or credit control
- Experience using a cloud-based ERP or accounting system
- A good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping
- Confidence using Excel, including lookups, pivot tables and system exports
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage high transaction volumes
- A willingness to learn new systems and work across multiple platforms
- AAT, be working towards AAT, or have equivalent experience
Experience with NetSuite, Tipalti or Payhawk would be particularly useful, although it isn’t essential.
Multi-currency, multi-entity or international finance exposure would also be beneficial.
Why consider it?
This is a great opportunity if you want a role where you can broaden your transactional finance experience, gain exposure to international operations and work with a genuinely modern finance technology stack.
You’ll join a small finance team where you can take ownership quickly rather than being restricted to one narrow area.
Salary: £28,000–£32,000
Location: Bristol
Working pattern: Office-based, Monday to Friday
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Start: Immediate / short notice preferred
